At 11:00 AM TODAY, we will celebrate the ribbon-cutting and blessing of our new Las Cruces Southwest Coalition office.

I am SO excited to finally welcome you into this space. We will have a small brunch, and I really hope you will come eat with us and let us show you ALL that God is doing through Southwest Coalition.

This new office will serve as the Her Care Connection office for our sidewalk interns, our Las Cruces Southwest Coalition office, and, when needed, a temporary safe place for a mother facing an unexpected pregnancy and immediate crisis.

That is what makes this ribbon cutting so meaningful. This space will be used to serve, pray, welcome women, and respond when someone needs us most.

Please come! We really want to fellowship with you and celebrate what God is doing.

Last Saturday, more than 700 people across New Mexico came together to pray for this beautiful state.

And afterward, I began receiving emails reminding me that the prayer was even bigger than what we could see.

Several people wrote to tell me they had joined us in prayer from their homes. One woman told me she was on an ACTS retreat, and more than 40 women attending the retreat stopped to pray the Rosary for us and our intentions.

Hundreds gathered publicly. Others prayed quietly from home. Women on retreat prayed the Rosary. Texans crossed the state line to stand beside New Mexicans, and others joined us from even farther away.

One of the things I love most about Southwest Coalition is the beautiful unity between El Paso and Las Cruces. Two cities, two states, but one mission. I have watched Texans and New Mexicans pray together, serve together, cross state lines for one another, and stand side by side for women, children, and families.

We share the same desert, the same mountains, strong families, deep faith, and that Southwest way of taking care of one another. I see it in the little things: a young man taking off his hat when he is introduced to a woman, people stepping in to help without being asked, and families who still show up for each other.

There is something special about this whole borderland, El Paso and Las Cruces together, and that spirit of faith, family, hospitality, respect, responsibility, and caring for one another.

That is the Southwest I love, and that is what I want our children and grandchildren to inherit.

We cannot slow down now.

For those of us who believe in the power of prayer, this is the time to fully commit ourselves to what we know is one of the most powerful things we can do:

And this is exactly why our 40 Days for Life vigils matter.

New Mexico has already put $10 million in public funding toward the Doña Ana County facility. And thanks to the investigative work of New Mexico Alliance for Life, we now know of a separate $10 million appropriation for another reproductive health clinic in northern New Mexico.

And make no mistake, what is happening in New Mexico directly affects El Paso and Texas too. In our own local sidewalk counts, more than 75% of those we have observed arriving have come in Texas-plated vehicles. Guttmacher’s latest travel data also show that New Mexico remains the leading destination for Texans who travel out of state for abortion care.

This is why El Paso and Las Cruces cannot think of this as someone else’s issue. We are one Southwest community, and what happens on one side of that state line reaches the other.

Whatever else is happening around us, our response as people of faith must begin with prayer.

This is the time to fill these vigils with prayer warriors.

Not with anger.
Not with fear.
With prayer.

After we celebrate today, we are going straight into our 40 Days for Life Kickoff Rallies, and I would love to see you there!

We are asking each person to commit to just ONE HOUR of prayer each week during these 40 days.

Bring your spouse. Bring your children or grandchildren. Bring a friend. Bring your prayer group or church community.

One hour may seem small, but when hundreds of people each take their place, we can create an unbroken chain of prayer throughout all 40 days.

Last Saturday showed us what happens when people come together.

We cannot lose this momentum now.

Let’s fill the vigils with prayer warriors. Let’s keep showing up. Let’s keep entrusting New Mexico, our entire Southwest community, its mothers, its children, and its future generations to God.
