Today, on the anniversary of September 11, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage shown that day. May their memory deepen our gratitude for every human life and remind us never to take the gift of life for granted.

Before I share today’s big news, I want to begin by saying thank you.

After yesterday’s email, I received several messages from people who were grateful for the reminder that the headlines and abortion statistics do not tell the whole story of New Mexico. Yesterday, I shared some of what I have personally witnessed here: respect for women, generosity toward neighbors, responsibility for family, and people quietly stepping forward to help one another.

One reader wrote:

Then a mother, whose daughter lives in Las Cruces, wrote something else that touched me:

She went on to say:

These messages meant so much to me because that was exactly what I was trying to communicate. The statistics are real. The headlines are real. But they are not the whole story of New Mexico. A deeply rooted culture of faith, family, respect for women, generosity, and care for one another also deserves to be seen.

Unfortunately, we also received some very troubling news today.

As we prepare to gather tomorrow, New Mexico Alliance for Life has shared troubling news that Las Vegas, New Mexico, is being considered for another taxpayer-funded abortion facility tied to an additional $10 million appropriation.

According to Elisa Martinez, Executive Director of New Mexico Alliance for Life, Las Vegas was identified in part because of its two college campuses and central location in northern New Mexico.

New Mexico is already investing millions in the facility under construction in Las Cruces. Our organization strongly opposes another $10 million taxpayer-funded abortion facility in the state.

And all of this comes one day before people across New Mexico gather in prayer.

Now, after yesterday’s tease, I finally get to share some very good news.

As we prepare to gather in prayer tomorrow, I keep thinking about the way God gives us stories of conversion. They remind us that no sin is greater than His mercy, and no heart is beyond His power to change.

Over the last several days, I have had the blessing of getting to know our special guest a little more personally through our conversations and messages. What has struck me most is the depth of his faith. He radiates a deep love for his wife, a deep gratitude for God’s mercy, and a real fire for the mission God has called him to fulfill.

As I have listened to him, I have found myself thinking of St. Paul. Not because their stories are the same, but because both remind us what God can do with a life completely redirected by grace.

Dr. John Bruchalski is an OB/GYN who, during his residency, performed abortions. Through a profound spiritual conversion, the direction of his life and medical career changed. He went on to found Tepeyac OB/GYN and Divine Mercy Care, dedicating his work to life-affirming medicine and caring for both mother and child.

His story is exactly why we pray. God still changes hearts. His mercy is greater than our sin. And conversion is always possible.

Tomorrow, we will have the privilege of hearing that story from him personally.
