Unfortunately, we have received confirmation that construction has officially begun at the UNM site.

While the construction was stalled when local contractors pulled out of the job, we have since learned that a contractor from Albuquerque has recently begun construction on the $10 million tax-funded abortion and transgender center in Las Cruces. This update is not the news we were hoping for, but it is not a reason for despair. It is a call to deeper faith.

This past Friday, I recorded a video message for all of you. At the time, we did not yet know how urgent this moment would become. By Monday, it became clear how critical it is that we fully cover the vigil in prayer.

We must remember who leads this battle. “The Lord will fight for you; you have only to keep still.” Exodus 14:14. Our God is not surprised. He is not shaken. He is victorious.

Christ has already conquered sin and death. The outcome of eternity is secure. Our task is faithfulness.

Now more than ever, we must fill every vigil hour with prayer. We must be present. We must stand as visible witnesses of hope and truth. The sidewalk is our table. It is where we shine the light of Christ into darkness.

Yesterday I shared that Jesus tells us, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden… let your light shine before others.” Matthew 5:14 to 16. This is our moment to be those lamps, burning brightly and without fear.

An unbroken chain of prayer, hour after hour, day after day, is not symbolic. It is powerful. Prayer changes hearts. It softens consciences. It invites the Holy Spirit into places that seem hardened.

God willing, our faithful presence will speak to the construction workers. It will speak to the project managers. It will speak to business leaders and decision makers. Not with condemnation, but with conviction. Not with hostility, but with mercy and truth.

We stand there not against people, but for souls. We pray for the men and women doing the work. We pray that they would be stirred in conscience. We pray that courage would rise within them to reconsider their participation. We pray that light would penetrate every layer of this project.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5.

Scripture reminds us, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7. We do not respond with panic. We respond with prayer, courage, discipline, and steadfast hope.

I am asking each of you to recommit to the vigil. If you have been considering volunteering, now is the time. If you have been serving faithfully, thank you. Please continue. Invite others to join you. We need every hour covered. An unbroken chain of prayer is our offering to the Lord and our witness to the world.

Stay tuned for further information and additional actions to take to slow down or stop the center. You will be kept informed. For now, remain encouraged. Remain faithful. Remain hopeful.

The Lord is leading. The Lord is victorious. And we will do our part with confidence in Him.

Gratefully in Christ,

Devotional for Day 7

Intention: For an unbroken chain of prayer at the vigil, for the protection of every unborn child, and for the conversion of hearts involved in the construction project.

Scripture: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5

Reflection: God’s light is never intimidated by darkness. It does not retreat or flicker under pressure. When we stand in prayer, we are not merely observers of events unfolding around us. We are participants in a spiritual reality where Christ has already claimed victory. Our presence at the vigil is a visible sign that hope is alive. Each prayer offered becomes part of a greater chain of grace that God can use to touch hearts, redirect decisions, and protect life.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Light of the world. Shine Your light into every corner of this situation. Protect every mother and child. Stir the hearts of those involved in this project and awaken their consciences with truth and mercy. Strengthen us to remain faithful, courageous, and full of hope. May our prayers rise before You and accomplish Your holy will. Amen.

Challenge: Commit to one concrete hour at the UNM vigil this week and invite at least one other person to join you in prayer. Pray Psalm 51 for Dr. Theard.
