As we continue these 40 Days for Life, I want us to remember that our prayers are not only for the unborn child. We are also praying for the mother who may be frightened, alone, overwhelmed, or facing circumstances we cannot fully see.
That is one of the reasons I chose Gimme Shelter for our movie night. Inspired by the true story of a real maternity shelter, the film follows a pregnant teenager facing incredibly difficult circumstances who is determined to fight for her baby.
Her story is a powerful reminder that choosing life does not suddenly make everything easy. For many mothers, that choice can mean facing housing insecurity, broken relationships, financial struggles, fear, loneliness, and an uncertain future. They need our prayers, but they also need our compassion, our presence, and people willing to walk with them.
This is also why The Lily Pad Maternity Home is such an important part of the work of Southwest Coalition. We want mothers to know that saying yes to their babies does not mean they have to face everything that comes next alone.
As we pray throughout these 40 days, I hope we will pray just as fervently for the mothers who are struggling, for the mothers who feel trapped by their circumstances, and for the mothers who have courageously chosen life and are now trying to build a future for themselves and their children.
Please note that while the film is rated PG-13, I do not recommend it for children. It addresses difficult subjects including abuse, addiction, homelessness, family dysfunction, and teen pregnancy..

Devotional for Day 4
Intention: For fathers learning that they are expecting a child.
Scripture: “Be strong and steadfast; have no fear or dread.” Deuteronomy 31:6
Reflection: A father’s response can profoundly affect how a mother experiences an unexpected pregnancy. His courage can become her reassurance. His presence can turn isolation into partnership. Today we pray that fathers will choose responsibility, protection, and sacrificial love.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, strengthen men who are learning they will become fathers. Give them courage to remain present, accept responsibility, and become a source of security for mother and child. Amen.
