Behind Another Door at Guiding Star Southwest

Only TWO days left in our 40 Days for Life campaign!

Today, we're opening another door at Guiding Star Southwest to meet Norma Macias, one of our wonderful Client Care Specialists.

Many women arrive at our center carrying burdens we cannot see. Sometimes, what they need most is someone willing to listen, understand their circumstances, and help them find a way forward.

Norma recently shared one of those beautiful encounters.

A Story from Norma

Recently, I met with a young mother who had a six-month-old baby and had just discovered she was pregnant again.

She arrived visibly nervous and tearful. As we began talking, she broke down and shared the difficult circumstances she was facing.

She had recently separated from an abusive partner and had lost her job, her furniture, and many of her personal belongings. She was frightened about how she would support two children and uncertain about her future.

As I listened, I began helping her identify resources she hadn't realized were available. We discussed possible assistance for victims of domestic violence, childcare support that could help her return to work, and counseling to help her begin healing. We also talked about the family members she could turn to for support.

During our conversation, she told me something unexpected.

She had actually been looking for an abortion provider and had been given our address. She now realized Guiding Star wasn't the place she had intended to visit.

I reassured her that she was welcome and told her, "This is the place you needed to come to."

By the end of our time together, she told me she was beginning to see her circumstances differently. She realized that she had been so overwhelmed by everything happening in her life that she hadn't been able to recognize the support available to her.

And then she told me she had decided to continue her pregnancy!

Moments like these remind me why I love what I do. When a woman arrives frightened and overwhelmed, I want her to know she has a safe place to share her struggles and that she doesn't have to face them alone.

One of my greatest joys is seeing these mothers return later in their pregnancies, sometimes for their baby's gender reveal ultrasound. Watching their journeys unfold is such a blessing.

I'm deeply grateful to everyone who supports this ministry. Your generosity makes it possible for us to walk alongside these women and their families.

Take a closer look at this picture! Each tiny pair of baby feet represents a mother who chose life. Our Client Care Specialists receive one of these precious pins whenever a mother they've counseled makes that decision. Norma has proudly arranged hers into the shape of a heart.

For Norma, this little heart is a constant reminder that God's love is her greatest weapon in the counseling room. Only God can save a life. We are simply His instruments, blessed with the privilege of allowing His love to work through us.

Please keep Norma, this mother, and all the women facing difficult circumstances in your prayers.

What a blessing that this mother found her way to Guiding Star! Please keep her and all mothers facing frightening circumstances in your prayers.

Devotional for Day 38

Intention: For mothers facing abuse, fear, or overwhelming circumstances, that they may find safety, compassion, and the support they need.

Scripture: “God is our refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in distress.” — Psalm 46:2

Reflection: Sometimes fear and suffering make it difficult to see beyond our circumstances. Norma's story reminds us how God can work through a compassionate heart to bring hope where there seems to be none. Those tiny baby-feet pins are beautiful reminders that we are merely His instruments. It is God's love that transforms hearts and saves lives.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we lift up every mother who feels frightened, abandoned, or overwhelmed. Lead her to people who will offer genuine compassion and practical support. Give our Client Care Specialists wisdom, humility, and hearts filled with Your love. May they always remember that the lives entrusted to their care belong first to You. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Today's Challenge: Pray for a woman experiencing abuse or facing a difficult pregnancy. Ask God to lead her to safety, surround her with loving support, and give her hope for the future. Pray Psalm 51 for Dr. Theard.
