Where Motherhood and Ministry Go Hand in Hand

Only three days left in our 40 Days for Life campaign! Today, I have another very special person I’d like you to meet!

Yesterday, we met Kelly, one of our wonderful sonographers, and heard how a simple act of kindness can inspire someone years later.

Today, we're celebrating another beautiful blessing at Guiding Star Southwest: our new midwife, Bethany Miller!

“She takes ‘Hands-on motherhood’ to a whole new level!” 💕

One of the greatest joys of this ministry is watching God bring together people who have a heart for serving mothers and their babies. And Bethany has such a beautiful understanding of the sacredness of pregnancy and birth.

I think you'll especially love what she shares about the power of prayer in the birth room. It's a wonderful reminder that your prayers reach places you may never have imagined!

Meet Bethany Miller, Our New Midwife!

I've been a licensed midwife for five years and have had the privilege of attending over 250 births in birth centers and homes. I'm also a wife and a mother of two little ones.

I believe pregnancy and birth are sacred and holy experiences that have the power to transform not only the lives of mothers and babies, but also their families and entire communities.

As someone born and raised in El Paso, I've felt from a young age that the Lord was calling me to serve the women of our Borderland community. I feel incredibly blessed to now be part of the Guiding Star Southwest family!

One of the most beautiful things about being a midwife here is that we can literally see the evidence of prayer in the birth room.

Even when labor is incredibly difficult, mothers know they are not alone or abandoned. And when we face challenging moments or emergencies, we as a team find comfort knowing that so many people are lifting us up in prayer.

Recently, we cared for a mother who labored through strong contractions for more than 24 hours. Eventually, we transferred her to the hospital because she needed additional help. Although her birth didn't unfold exactly as planned, she was so proud of herself and grateful for the experience.

I'll never forget watching her and her husband dance through contractions while listening to worship music, stopping to pray together for strength and guidance. It was such a beautiful witness of faith and love!

We couldn't have supported this family as long or as well as we did without the Lord's strength and the prayers of so many faithful people.

That's what makes this calling so special to me. We have the privilege of witnessing God's presence in some of the most sacred moments of a family's life.

— Bethany Miller, Midwife at Guiding Star Southwest

Isn't that beautiful? I especially love knowing that even in those long, difficult hours of labor, our mothers and our team are surrounded by prayer.

To every one of you who prays for this ministry, thank you. You may never step foot inside our birth center, but you are very much a part of what God is doing there.

And a special thank-you to Bethany's husband for supporting her in this beautiful calling! Behind a dedicated midwife is a family that shares in the sacrifices, the long hours, and the joy of welcoming new life. We're so grateful for the love and support that make her ministry possible.

Please join me in welcoming Bethany and praying for all the mothers and babies who will be entrusted to her care!

Devotional for Day 37

Intention: For expectant mothers, their babies, and the midwives who accompany them through the beautiful and sometimes difficult journey of childbirth.

Scripture: “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts.” — Psalm 28:7

Reflection: Childbirth is a beautiful reminder of both our human vulnerability and God's extraordinary gift of life. Bethany's story reminds us that even in moments of exhaustion and uncertainty, prayer brings strength, comfort, and courage. What a blessing to know that God is present in those sacred moments, carrying us through what we could never accomplish alone.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, bless every mother preparing to welcome her child. Give her strength when she is weary, courage when she is afraid, and peace in knowing You are near. Guide the hands and hearts of our midwives, and protect every precious life entrusted to their care. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Today's Challenge: Pray for a mother preparing to give birth, especially one facing a difficult pregnancy or delivery. Ask God to surround her with loving support and fill her heart with peace. Pray Psalm 51 for Dr. Theard.
