The power of a mother’s love.
Yesterday, I introduced you to Ester, who shared the importance of men and women receiving the healing and mercy they need after experiencing the pain of abortion.
Today, I would love for you to meet Martha Rico, the Program Coordinator for The Lily Pad Maternity Home. I’m sharing her photo again so that if you don’t know her, you can now put a name to the face.
In the midst of everything our community is facing right now, especially the difficult news about construction moving forward on the abortion facility in Las Cruces, I felt it was important to share a bit of good news.
Today, with the family’s permission, Martha is sharing a story about one of the mothers who came through The Lily Pad Maternity Home. Names have been changed to protect their privacy.
Josie’s Story
“I want to share a heartfelt story that reflects the mission of The Lily Pad Maternity Home. It is a privilege for us to walk alongside mothers and witness the strength it takes to choose love and sacrifice for their children.
Every mother deserves the opportunity to embrace parenting, and there is truly nothing like the bond between a mother and her child. Yet sometimes the most loving decision a mother can make is to place her child in a home where they will be cherished and cared for.
A year ago this week, our beloved Josie made one of the most difficult and courageous decisions of her life. With deep love for her baby boy, Alejandro, she chose the path of adoption. While facing struggles with addiction and an unhealthy relationship, Josie looked beyond her own pain and focused on giving her son the safest and brightest future possible. Her decision required extraordinary strength and the sacrificial love of a mother.
We are grateful to share that a wonderful couple from Boston was chosen by Josie to become Alejandro’s adoptive parents. Today, they are lovingly raising him, providing the stability and tenderness every child deserves.
Yesterday, as Alejandro celebrated his first birthday, we celebrated his life, the beautiful family raising him, and most importantly, the brave mother whose love made it all possible.
Happy 1st Birthday, Alejandro! May your life always be filled with love, grace, and the knowledge that you were deeply loved from the very beginning.
Thank you for your continued support of our mission to empower mothers and create loving families.”

Meet Alejandro’s grateful parents.

Devotional for Day 28
Intention:
For mothers facing difficult decisions, surrounded by love, support, and hope.
Scripture:
“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
Reflection:
Sometimes the work of protecting life can feel heavy. But moments like this remind us that every act of love, every prayer, and every effort to support a mother matters. God is always at work, even when we cannot immediately see the results.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the mothers who courageously choose love and sacrifice for their children. Bless the women we serve and the families who open their hearts to welcome life. Strengthen our community so we may continue to be a place of hope and support for every mother who needs it. Amen.
Challenge:
Today, pray for the mothers who loved enough to choose life for their babies and brave enough to place them for adoption. Then Pray Psalm 51 for Dr. Theard.
40 Days of Gift Giving
Each day, one Registered Prayer Volunteer from every vigil site will be selected to receive a small Southwest Coalition merchandise item that we already have on hand. It is a simple and joyful way for us to thank you for showing up and standing faithfully in prayer.
